The Jersey Cheshire Home is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and aims to raise £300,000.

The Jersey Cheshire Home provides care to individuals who are physically disabled and unable to live in their own homes as well as day care treatments such as physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. The Home relies heavily on donations and every penny raised goes on creating a brighter future for both residents and visitors.

One of the many fundraising activities planned in this 30th anniversary year is Trek Kerala; a gruelling five day trek in the Kerala region on the south west coast of India. Le Masurier’s Managing Director, Brian McCarthy is participating in the trek and aims to raise as much as possible to support the Home.

Brian will be meeting all travel and accommodation costs personally, but he would be extremely grateful if individuals or companies would kindly consider sponsoring him or making a donation to help this extremely worthy cause. If you can help in any way, please send your contribution to Le Masurier but with cheques made payable to Jersey Cheshire Home.

In taking on this commitment Brian faces both personal and physical challenges. However, these pale into insignificance when compared to those individuals who are physically disabled and, without the support of the Home, are unable to enjoy the same quality of life. Together with your support, we can help the Jersey Cheshire Home reach its aim of raising £300,000 and equally as important, its profile within the island.

The Le Masurier J1 Skills & Training Initiative has launched a series of videos to help prepare people for work. The Careers Jersey on-line resource provides guidance on interview skills to help job seekers of all ages.

Le Masurier are proud that their sponsorship has enabled the four videos to be provided free of charge on the States of Jersey website.

The first video demonstrates ‘how to’ and ‘how not to’ behave in an interview for an apprenticeship. The second provides guidance to university applicants undergoing interviews and a third illustrates a corporate panel interview for an experienced adult. The fourth video features representatives from local industry providing top tips on how to impress, and classic mistakes to avoid in interviews.

Brian McCarthy, Managing Director of Le Masurier said “Our J1 Skills and Training framework aims to provide a breadth of initiatives to support Jersey’s community ranging from education, careers support, work placements and direct local employment. We are delighted to have provided support to this particular project, which we hope will benefit many islanders, of all ages”.

Jenny O’Brien, Project Manager at Careers Jersey explained the rationale behind the project “After searching for suitable videos to illustrate key interview skills, we found nothing that matched our needs. We therefore saw this as an opportunity to tailor-make a series of resources that are useful to people at various stages of their career.”

She continued “With the current employment market we have seen a sharp increase in Islanders of all ages looking for help preparing for interviews, many of whom haven’t been through the job application process for many years, if at all”.

The videos, produced by Freedom Media, feature well-known local stars of media and stage, Channel Television and Channel 103FM presenter Jenny Mullin, and JADC performer and current Bird College student Jonny Labey as interviewees. The third interviewee, Alfie Balston, who demonstrates good and bad interview techniques when applying for university, has proven his knowledge of this subject, securing a place at medical school in London.

Jeremy Field, Education Liaison Manager at Careers Jersey added “We work closely with the careers teachers from all the Island’s secondary schools and colleges, and have designed the videos to help the next generation of job seekers to communicate their skills and competencies effectively”.

The videos can be accessed online at www.youtube.com/careersjersey

Le Masurier has been named Business of the Year; the most sought after accolade at the JeCC Awards. The local property development company was presented with the Condor Logistics Business of the Year Award at the annual ceremony at the Hotel De France on Saturday night. (22/9/2012)

The award looks at businesses as a whole, how they work with clients, the way they meet unexpected problems or tough challenges, their approach to health and safety, how they interact with the community and the way in which they work with and develop their staff.

The judges felt that Le Masurier demonstrated, “a deep and on-going engagement with the island’s community and took the responsibilities to their staff and their personal development very seriously.”

Brian McCarthy, Le Masurier’s Managing Director said: “’I am delighted that Le Masurier have won the Business of the Year Award. This is testimony to all of the hard work and effort of my team in wanting to make a significant impact on the future of our island. I would also wish to thank the Council and all of our professional advisors and consultants for their contribution in ensuring that our projects are of outstanding quality.”

Host for the evening, Channel Television’s Karen Rankine announced from the stage: “This year’s winner is a well-established local firm that’s made and continues to make a huge impact on the island. Strongly focused on Jersey and clearly committed to the Island, this company believes in working with community as it seeks to deliver its projects and invest significant sums into the Island’s economy. A company, which displays such confidence in the Island, is great news for the construction industry and this was an important factor in the judges’ decision. “

Le Masurier is investing more than 200 million pounds into two significant development projects in St Helier. J1 and Parkside Village demonstrate a commitment to the long-term future of the construction industry and the community.

Brian McCarthy, Le Masurier’s Managing Director said: “Getting to this stage of the process, for both projects, has required relentless determination by every member of staff, who have been ‘solution-focussed’ at every hurdle of the journey. I’m delighted that our dedicated team have been recognised in this way and awarded this honour by the JeCC. They have all demonstrated an un-wavering commitment to realise the vision of these two innovative and exciting development projects.”

Background information:

Le Masurier is a company of integrity with the community and our Island at its heart. Our goal is to be known for this and to be regarded in the highest esteem by Jersey’s community. The Group’s vision is to see St Helier transformed through the delivery of both the J1 project and the regeneration of a substantial part of the North of Town through Parkside Village. J1 has approved planning permission and a draft SPG for Parkside Village has been published by the Environment Minister.

These two projects will provide substantial economic stimulus to Jersey and direct local employment. Le Masurier believe that these two projects will leave a legacy for the Island and the Clarke family, having created vibrant, high quality sustainable accommodation for occupiers, whilst creating new spaces for the public to enjoy both now and for generations to come.
